The Alchemist

I put on the main homepage my favourite quote from Paul Coelho’s “The Alchemist”: “When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you achieve it.” There is something unique about the wording here that is worthwhile thinking about. What he is writing is not something new; in reality it’s no different than saying “when you wish upon a star, dreams come true” (Walt Disney).

But why this wording is unique is that it provides an explanation of how you get what you wish for: the universe “conspires” to help you achieve it. You still have to achieve it. You still have to convert your wishes to actionable moments that lead you to your goal. But once you begin doing this; once you want something, and try to achieve it yourself with action, then the universe will help you. More than that, it will conspire to help you; hidden in secrecy through coincidences or “luck”. But really it is a universal conspiracy.

There are plenty of quotable moments in this book and I encourage everyone to read it. I personally read this book once a year. Regardless of what you want to achieve, if you want it, take actionable steps towards the goal; the universe will do the rest.
